Officers from the Scarsdale Police Department responded to an Aulenrieth Road residence shortly after 1 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 24, when a resident reported that there had been a loud crash and flashlights outside the home.
Upon arrival, police said that officers found a gray Jeep on the front lawn and hedges of the residence with severe front end damage, with the driver, Scarsdale resident Henry Fanning outside the vehicle.
According to police, Fanning said that he had been driving south on Oakwood Place, going approximately 45 mph to 50 mph and when he attempted to make the turn onto Aulenrieth Road, he lost control and drove onto the property, through hedges and striking a tree.
Fanning refused medical attention.
Police said that while speaking with Fanning, officers noted a strong odor of alcohol on his breath and his eyes were glassy and bloodshot. Fanning admitted to drinking three or four beers an hour before the crash and he proceeded to fail Standardized Field Sobriety Tests.
A breathalyzer found that Fanning’s blood alcohol content was at .137 following the crash, and he was arrested. At Scarsdale Police Headquarters, Fanning’s blood alcohol content was measured at .12 percent.
Fanning was arrested and charged with misdemeanor counts of driving while intoxicated and operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol content greater than .08 percent. He was also cited for speeding. Following his processing, Fanning was released and is scheduled to appear back in Scarsdale Village Court on Wednesday, Oct. 30 to answer the charges.
